Upright Pianos
Upright pianos are often chosen for schools, teachers and anyone looking to place an instrument within the home environment. The sound quality can vary enormously between the different brands and this is also dependant on whether the piano is new or used.
Aspiring pianists and more advanced players will feel most inspired by uprights from our premium brands. Beginners and less experienced pianists may not be able to reap the benefits of some of our best upright pianos, but there are plenty of lower budget upright and second hand pianos that still possess optimum quality, helping to improve your playing on an acoustic piano.
We have a wide-range of stock made up of New Yamaha, Kawai, C.Bechstein, W.Hoffman, Danemann and Hailun pianos, as well as plenty of second hand pianos by Bentley, Welmar, Kingsburg, Wilh. Steinberg and many more that frequently arrive in our showroom!

Features

•Vertical acoustic piano action
•Weighted keys/hammer action
•True pedalling ability
•Built in music rest positioned at a comfortable height.
•Often available with a practice pedal to dampen the sound for quieter playing.
•Sometimes available with a Sostenuto pedal to sustain selected notes for a desired length of time.
•Option to add a silent system

Upright pianos produce a wide variety of tone-colour and depth of sound compared to digital pianos, due to the inner workings of hammers, felt and strings working together to produce an authentic sound. Generally, the keys also have greater touch sensitivity than those on a digital piano. The newer the piano, the better these features will work.
Appearance
•Smaller and compact -suitable for more limited spaces.
•Available in a variety of sizes-some with taller soundboards and longer strings for greater resonance and volume.
• Available in a variety of cabinet designs from classic box-like styles to more elegant designs with curved edges and key lids.

Our uprights come in various finishes such as Polished Ebony, Walnut, Mahogany and White. Satin finishes are also available. So it's a good idea to think about which colour will best suit your piano's surrounding environment.

What to listen for
•Differences in volume-larger cabinets and soundboards project the sound further, giving a wider dynamic range.
•The richness of the bass-as pianos become larger, the strings become longer, creating a deeper bass.
•The way the piano resonates-it will sound different in our showroom compared to where you plan to keep it.
•Tone-consider whether you are looking for a brighter or mellower sounding piano.
If you are after a piano that almost sounds as good as new, the second hand pianos that are youngest in age are the best option as they will be less worn out! However, if an older piano has been made with high quality materials, you may be in for a treat! Our new premium brand upright pianos will of course provide you with the most satisfying playing experience with greater evenness of tone, responsive touch and a more unique sound.
