What to listen for

• Tone: are you looking for a piano that is brighter or mellower?
•The evenness of sound and touch from the treble to the bass: Is the volume consistent when the same pressure is applied to each note?

•Touch response: do you prefer a piano with a lighter or heavier touch? Try the same trills and rhythms across a variety of pianos to find out.

Every individual Grand piano has unique tone qualities that are recognisable within their own brand. It's important to play pianos from across the different brands, so you can listen for these differences to help you find the right piano.
