Taking care of your Piano

Tuning
The more you use your piano, the more you will need to tune it! If you want the perfect sound, it's important to keep your piano in tune as this also keeps the strings in good condition.
If you are a performer it's likely you will want to tune it before every recital. For anyone else, we recommend having your piano tuned once every 6-12 months and it will roughly take 1-3 hours depending on how long it's been since the piano was last tuned.

Voicing and Regulation
Voicing your piano:
All pianos, at some point, will need hammer voicing, which is usually done during a tuning or maintenance visit. Having your piano voiced is of benefit to the overall tone of the instrument. Over time, you may notice that some notes sound different from others, especially if certain notes have been played more frequently. Over time, you'll become increasingly aware of the subtle differences in how the hammer head felt strikes the strings. Voicing helps to address any notes that sound out of place compared to the rest of the piano, ensuring a harmonious sound.
Sometimes, a more comprehensive voicing is necessary to achieve a specific tone and timbre, whether it's for acoustic purposes or personal preference. This highly skilled process can bring back the unique qualities and charm of your piano.

Regulating your piano:
At some point, most pianos can benefit from regulation. Regulation ensures that the keys will respond evenly. Pianos have many moving parts, and the constant pressure exerted on them by fingertips to produce sound requires precise design and balance. If the piano action and keys are not properly prepared, you may find that playing becomes uneven and the true potential and enjoyment of playing cannot be achieved.
In certain cases, the touch of the piano can be adjusted according to personal requirements with the guidance of an experienced technician. A well-regulated piano creates a smooth playing experience that reflects the player's desires and abilities like a mirror. It allows for dynamics in expression and accuracy in touch, enhancing the overall performance.
